A New Perspective

This new journey on which we in Class 15 have been venturing has been very interesting, to say the least, to me. I have always been a high school teacher at heart but have taught at the middle school level as well as the high school level. In questioning a former high school co-worker who is now an elementary school principal, I found it interesting when he told me he enjoyed the elementary level more as an administrator. I thought to myself, "No way!" So, this last week, I took the opportunity to visit in two schools. One a high school, the other an elementary school. I honestly can't say that I enjoyed one more than the other! I even volunteered to do lunch duty in the elementary school and had a good time! I was surprised! Perhaps the highlight of the day was setting up a meeting with a "Big Brother" and the Principal for two young children at that school. I set up the appointment on a day when I could return and told the Principal I would like to be at the meeting. She was very receptive to that and in fact told me that she also would like me to be there. Wow! How cool! I know I'll be returning there for future visits.

My plan is to visit all the schools in this county, something I had not necessarily planned on doing before. I know we were told in June by the 2nd years that we should do that, but like I said above, not the elementary schools for me. Well, now, yes, the elementary schools for me.

When my daughter was born and in her early years I did a lot of reading on the importance of exposure to intellectual stimuli in the formative years. Now that she's older, perhaps this will be a way to continue on that path, ensuring that our youngest children receive as much stimulation as they can from the adults in their lives.
